Shades of Grey

Why is it that some greyhounds turn grey so early?  Jessie, the brindle in the picture above, (Gator in the background) is the greyhound I adopted when I was 18.  I hardly remember her as I think her face turned white the next day.  Below, is the Jessie I remember.
I am expecting that Riley's cute white snip on her nose will eventually be a distant memory as her face is quickly turning grey.  Here are a series of photos starting with the day I brought her home on September 20th, 2008 to today.
One thing is for certain, Riley will always have ugly ears... but I love them!

My Stella had a white heart shape on her face when we got her at 3. Now almost her entire head is white. I think Riley has very cute expressive ears.

Gosh, that's quite amazing. I've never noticed her greying out before. And she's only about 4? She'll always be cute though and so are her ears, she'll just look a bit distinguished:)

She's so cute! I'd never noticed her going grey either. But Arrow is the same, he will be 5 in September and is already quite grey around his face, over his eyes. I'll have to get some photos to update our blog to show off his 'silver distinction' too

My Tom had a little white stripe on his nose. After 7 years, he it totally grey now and the stripe has just blended in!

I love Riley's little elf ears! I wish I knew the secret about the greying faces. Some of ours have turned really early, and then some have been quite late!

Barbie's chin is developing a greyness at 3 years of age. I think she will be greying by 5. But then Bender definately has some grey going on around his muzzle and he is 5. I think it happens with a lot of dogs.

My Pippi has had a white heart shapped face since we got her at age 3. I love a gray face on a grey. And Riley's ears are super cute!! They are different and suit her personality I think! :)

Someone recently sent me Summit's original adoption photos from when he arrived at the agency at age 3. I had always joked that the one good thing about having a white dog is that he wouldn't go grey like all the other colours. Well, boy was I wrong. It turns out that the ear patch on his left used to extend all the way down over his left eye! He's only 6 now, but in 3 years the patch over his eye has completely disappeared.

They're just growing gray with grace!

My yellow Lab is just starting to turn gray over the past year (he's 7 1/2 now), and I keep telling him that he's not allowed to get older!!

Gorgeous photos, thanks for sharing.
