Swallowing

One thing to remember when trading toys for treats while playing fetch with your hound, give him a moment to swallow.  If you throw the toy immediately, a hasty hound will sometimes inhale the treat and the game is interupted with hacking up a treat.
Riley is the worst.  Treats just sit on her tongue and she often spits them out unknowingly.  At the indoor training building, I walk around and collect the dropped treats and reuse them.

Ha ha ha! I admit, that made me gag a little!

Did you see the video on the Bark N About blog this weekend? It was about amazing dogs and I'm pretty sure there was some footage of Travis dock diving in there. The video is a bit long, over seven minutes, but I thought you might like to know!

Very good point! Which reminds me...after class last night I helped out with the CGC test...and left all my leftover treats on the desk! Grrrrr...

Haha yes, very true, we are very aware of that with Arrow and make him wait before going off for a run again!

Layla does that too! I'll give her a treat on a contact obstacle, and then 4 obstacles later she coughs it up. I try giving her a chance to swallow. I think she fakes a swallow and then holds it in her mouth. Sneaky girl.

Houndstooth, I checked out the video and I think its Country the greyhound mix. He is or at least was the record holder for the biggest dock jump. Over 26 feet! Great video though!

Well, would you look at that. I've never seen a treat left uneaten. Bear in mind, though, that my background is sleddogs who would swallow the treat and the retrieval object.

What a 'green' dog. Into recycling treats.

Riley is very green. Indoors I will pick up the treats in accidently spits out and use them again!
