Introducing...

I have decided on the name Seven. I was thinking about it before it was even suggested in the comments. There were lots of good suggestions. Thanks everyone for your help. I believe Mielikki's Hunt was the first to suggest "Seven". Renee, I will send you a Facebook message and find out where to send your prize.

These videos are were taken about two weeks ago.

Seven has already been to a lot of places... hiking, agility trials, training building, and training field. No matter where we go, she is always eager for treats and training. She already is very good at focusing. Initially, she tested not safe for small dogs, but with a little exposure she has done great. She also seems to have a comfortable sit which is what I really wanted for obedience. And the best part... like Riley, she sleeps in the van while I drive.

Seven is a great name. That was my nickname for a little while in college. She's adorable and looks like a good worker. Welcome to the family!

Oh darn. I would have suggested you keep Seven as her name, if I'd known it was an option! I liked it right away, too. ;-)

I <3 her zoom play! I wish my JoJo was that energetic for something besides me walking through the front door.

Awwww! I wanted to suggest Seven, but I was afraid of being labeled George Costanza! I love watching her play -- she's like a little dervish.

I'm curious -- what do you look for when you pick out a Greyhound? I know that when I go, I'm usually looking for traits that I think are good for a therapy dog, since that's one of the main activities that we do with our dogs. I don't go in and see a ready made therapy visitor, though I am looking for certain outgoing traits. I was just curious what traits you look for, since I know you enjoy the obedience and agility work so much.

Houndstooth, FOOD motivation is the #1 trait on my list. I always have something great in my pocket so I like to see a new greyhound immediately sniffing my pockets and totally into what I have. I want to see them still interested in my treats outside with all the distractions. And I'll immediately try to lure them into a sit to see if they can sit and to see if how pushy they are about the treats or do they lose interest if challenged.

It's pretty neat that both Katie and Travis were fawn, and now Riley and Seven are brindled.

Seven is adorable! I considered Seven for my next GSD for a good bit, but that fell through. :p

Hmmm... I'll have to make notes to have some food in my pocket the next time we're hound shopping! ;)

Welcome home Seven! Love the name. The second video reminds me of our hound when she is outside with a toy. Based on previous video of your other hounds, I imagine you will teach Seven to retrieve and I wish I could get a reliable retrieve from our hound. Could you share your method for teaching your hounds to retrieve?

Never Say Never Greyhounds said...

Ginny, yes, I hope to get some video of teaching play retrieves. The problem is that I seem to have to come up with a new method everytime. Seven is actually proving to be most difficult as she has zero toy drive if food is at all in the picture. So I am having to train it from scratch with her.
