Very sad news, Jen. You have always kept kindness to the dog first and foremost in your decisions about their care, even to the final act of kindness. Katie lived the full cycle of her life and accomplished much in it, for which you can be proud. All dogs should be so lucky.

Jennifer,

I fall back on this quote many times a year. I hope it comforts you.

"We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached. Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way. We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necesssary
plan." -Irving Townsend

Jenn - I am soo sorry to hear of your loss. I know you loved Katie very much, and that she had a wonderful life with you that most dogs could only dream of having. I know this was a difficult decision, but I'm convinced you made the right one. I hope your other dogs will be a source of comfort to you (and you to them) during this difficult time...

Oh, I'm so sorry. The only consolation is that she's not hurting anymore, but that doesn't much help those who are left behind. My thoughts are with you.

OMG, Jen, I am so sorry. I know how much Katie meant to you. She certainly meant a lot to me, and I'd never even met her. Katie is/was my inspiration, along with your other GREYThounds, to pursue things with my greyts. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I wish you, Reagan, Riley, and Stephen all the best.

Thanks for everything. Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

Oh Jen, I'm so very sorry! I know how deeply you loved Katie, and it's never easy to let them go, even when you know you have to. She lived a phenomenal life with you, way beyond what most Greyhounds get to do! You did so much for her and with her, and I know in my heart, Katie loved you for it. Our hearts are with you right now!

Jen, I'm so sorry. This must be hard for you. She lived a long and full life, and with time, you will be able to take comfort in that. For now, my thoughts are with you. Marge sends licks.

RIP Katie, dear hound.

I think the Rainbow Bridge poem is fitting at this time

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
