Successful Debut

All I can say is "WOW!" Riley had a fantastic debut at her first agility trial last weekend at Wills Park. Four agility classes, four qualifying runs, and four blue ribbons. You cannot ask for more than that! I really had no idea what to expect from the little misfit, but she was very mature, responsive, and had a blast.

In our first run, Novice Jumpers (no climbing obstacles), she was flawless. At the beginning of the video, you will notice that she was a little slow to sit and kept turning her head.... she wasn't so sure about the electronic timer that said "go". However, it did not affect her run.

The second run on our video was Saturday's, Novice Standard (includes climbing obstacles). There were a few minor errors (allowed at the Novice level), but she correctly performed all of the obstacles.

The last run on the video is Sunday's Novice Jumpers. There was some tight work at the beginning, but after the weave poles it was just RUN - a very long line of jumps along the back of the ring to the front.

Our 4th run, Sunday's Novice Standard, was not filmed unfortunately, but I will tell you about it in my next post. Way to go, Riley! I needed that.

Excellent runs. She is super at her contact work. No teeter issues with her.
For a dog who jumping wasn't natural she sure has learned how to.
She will give Whisper a challenge.

That is freaking AWESOME!!
Congratulations!

It goes to show what a lot of careful thought and work you put into your training.

Either that, or you've found an "Easy" button for agility LOL

OMG!!! I am so glad I had your blog and website referred to me. I have an off the track boy, 2 1/2 years old and we have started obedience class. Strictly CT of course....but we are starting to learn the "sit" and with my Grey it just isn't an option. I hope to learn more reading your blog..you and your dogs are such inspirations!

Welcome Sandy. Be sure to check out my sit and down training under the "Sits and Downs" category for greyhound sit training if you are having trouble.

Will do Jennifer....once again....whew...I am SO glad to see you and your Greyhounds DOING something. So many people have told me all they are good for in the dog sport world is just running...I knew that couldn't be so. ("Creel" thanks you too!)
